Thomas Gregor McGehee was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Coming from a family of painters, he had an early interest and raw talent for art, painting as a small child. He started a degree in animal husbandry at Louisiana State University but left before finishing to start a career cattle farming in Mississippi. He then returned to Louisiana to finish studying and during this time took sculpture classes. Gregor moved to New York where his eye for colour and design caught the attention of the fashion icon Oscar de la Renta. He was subsequently hired as creative director for the men’s fashion division and had a successful career which involved travelling around the world on behalf of the company. Gregor moved to London in 2003 to work for Polo Ralph Lauren and took up his passion for art again, this time concentrating on perfecting his painting skills. His work is largely abstract and he uses oils on French and Italian paper. Colour, texture and abstract forms are his focus. Gregor paints abstract and semi-abstract portraits, still life works and landscapes. He has had two highly successful shows in New York – the last one in February 2010 at the National Arts Club. Gregor paints in his studio in Chelsea, London.
